NAA...Rarest of all U.S. M1911 WWI Contract Pistols

One of only 100+/- ever produced by North American Arms (Quebec, Canada). Consecutively serial numbered to the N.A.A. pistol s/n 78 in the Citidel Museum in Quebec City. North American Arms was contracted by the United States Government to manufacture U.S. military M1911 pistols for World War I in 1918. WWI ended and the contract with NAA was suspended in December 1918. NAA, at the time the contract was suspended, was in pre-production, having not delivered any completed pistols to the United States.

In 1920, NAA presented a pistol in the hearing for the settlement between the United States and Canadian war manufacturers. It is undetermined what sum of money NAA may have received for their part in wartime production. NAA retained full rights and control of the few toolroom prototypes they had produced.

The North American Arms pistol is extremely rare and highly desirable. See the full-size 1024x768 images of the pistol in the Gallery. This pistol is entirely original finish, unlike most known examples. The barrel is original and all serial numbers match. All correct parts.
